Ram decides to perform the Ashwamedha Yajna after several years of his coronation. The reason behind this decision is rooted in the story of the Ramayana. Ravana, the king of Lanka, was the grandson of Pulastya Rishi and the son of Rishi Vishrava. Although Ravana's mother belonged to the demon clan, his father's Brahmin lineage classified Ravana as a Brahmin. When Lord Rama killed Ravana and his lineage, he incurred the sin of Brahminicide due to Ravana's Brahmin heritage.

According to religious texts, Brahminicide is considered highly condemnable, and Lord Rama had not yet performed any penance to absolve himself of this sin. Consequently, even the sage Kambojhar refused to accept alms from him. Through the Ashwamedha Yajna, Lord Rama could free himself from the sin of Brahminicide. Therefore, he decided to conduct this Yajna.
